Our story

Once upon a pre-pandemic time, Barry and Jeri and their son Zack lived in a very old house. Mom and Dad worked as a musical storytelling duo called The Storycrafters; their son was about to complete his Bachelor’s of Music and start an internship at Disney World. Then the global pandemic hit. Storytelling, internship, and life as live performing artists had come to a crashing halt.

Barry had been cultivating a sourdough starter for a few years, and with the new found time perfected his methodology. Whenever he made sourdough breads, people crooned, “Barry you should sell this.”

One day he went to the Barn at Miller’s Crossing, a local farm stand, to see if they were interested in selling the bread. He brought sourdoughs, Jeri’s challah, fruit bars and scones, and they bit both literally and figuratively. That is how Our Old House Bakery became a family-owned and operated COVID-pivot business.

Then one day, a neighbor knocked on our door and asked about the bread they had been buying there. “Could I get some at your old house too?” And so began our private order “porch pickup” business. Then someone told us that a farmer’s market needed a baker and one thing quickly lead to another which lead to another which lead to now. So, the story of Our Old House Bakery continues as the bakery and the kitchen appliance collection grows.

Our Old House kitchen produces wholesome breads and baked goods. Lovingly made by hand, with the best quality affordable ingredients we can find, we bake with the intention of “From our old house to yours”.

Our ingredients

We care a lot about what goes into our breads. We use organic and local ingredients whenever we can. Our flours are always organic and locally sourced whenever possible. We use organic, local honey and our eggs come from chickens who are practically next door. Most of our dried fruits are organic, as are most of the nuts. Some of our nuts are even roasted nearby.

We balance our vision to use organic and local ingredients with the need to make our wholesome products affordable. The bakers at Our Old House Bakery are conscious of a range of dietary needs and strive to be considerate of them. All milks we use are plant-based. Most of our bread products are vegan (excluding the cheese breads and the challahs). Many of our pastries are either non-dairy or vegan. Some are even vegan and grain free. We also carry buttery, floury, comfort foods such as scones, cinnamon danish, and a line of boutique brownies because…brownies.

We strive for balance in all ways – wholesomeness, local ingredients, affordability, and decadence. Our Old House Bakery supports local businesses whenever we can including:
